Stop The Bleed Clinic
Clinic Description
There are some injuries that will cause death before the arrival of EMS. Learning to manage
these injuries rapidly and correctly is crucial to saving lives. This 1-hour workshop will give
you a plan to identify and manage immediately life-threatening injuries occurring during an
active shooter event, a bombing, or a disaster. As a bystander, you are in the best position to
provide first care and are a critical beginning to the emergency medical system.
In the first 10 minutes after an event, the only people available to provide care will be “active
bystanders,” those near-by private citizens, such as Students, coworkers, faculty and
staff,who will step forward to help. This workshop will teach you the skills to manage those
injuries while you are waiting for first responders. It also is consistent with the Tactical
Emergency Casualty Care Committee’s Active Bystander Guidelines.

• Assessment and management of massive hemorrhage with tourniquets, good direct
pressure and bandaging

ASECCCourse Description
Active Shooter Emergency Causality Care
A comprehensive introduction to tactical casualty care
This class is consistent with the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) guidelines for
all combatants, as well as the guidelines for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care
(TECC) for active bystanders and responders with a duty to act. It is designed to give
you a plan to identify and manage immediate life-threatening injuries. This plan
provides knowledge and skills to implement a variety of lifesaving techniques, while
you are still engaged in an ongoing emergency.
The class deals with the TCCC Care Under Fire or TECC Direct Threat phase of an
event, where any medical care is provided while the responder and casualty are in an
ongoing emergency problem that is a direct threat to life such as, active shooters,
motor vehicle accidents, building collapses, fires, natural disasters etc. The class
exceeds the stop the bleed curriculum.
